Welcome to Next Steps Marketing News & Notes. The need to cooperate and to get the newsstand channel back to normal and working effectively was evident at the MPA Retail Conference. Wholesalers, The News Group and Hudson News spoke candidly about their challenges and how they can help move the channel forward. Many people stated that customers should be the center of our model and this has seemed to be forgotten in the last few months.

Interestingly no retailers spoke on any panels at this years MPA Retail Conference, but talking to them one-on-one it was very evident that they are all facing their toughest year in decades. Now is the time to think how you can help retailers drive foot traffic and support their efforts marketing your publication. See some ideas below.

Sincerely,
Maire Walsh

-Consider special in-store events where you can drive traffic while building awareness of your titles.

-Support their promotional programs and work with them to develop unique programs for your titles.

-Consider money off coupons available online to drive foot traffic while increasing sale
