Industry News
New Magazine Launches
Samir Husni has reported that 71 magazines launched in the month of September. This is good news and hopefully will help offset major closings including Gourmet magazine, a well know industry brand.
Major Industry Stakeholders to Create Digital Reader/E-Readers
Both publishers and retailers are investing in e-readers. Major publishers have joined forces to showcase the graphics and color of magazines. Meanwhile Barnes and Noble, will launch their own e-readers as soon as next month.
Such devices should help reach new audiences. John McLoughin, reported at Circ Day LA that "90% of online subscribers to Hearst magazines are new subscribers to their magazines." Expect price wars for e-readers to erupt as the e-reader market takes flight.
Sign of the Times: Disappearing Bookstores?
Grant Thorton LLP has predicted in a study that almost 500 bookstores will close in 2009. Of late, there has been increased order regulation (tightening of draws) due to credit risk associated with retailers including bookstores. This maybe further evidence of the need for new channels and platforms to drive retail sales.

If Content is King, Then Audience is Queen
--our reflection and growth
A few years ago, circulators were simply trying to get eyeballs to their site. Now the game has changed. It's about developing strong affinity-based, responsive audiences. Circulators are uniquely positioned to excel in the world where data is readily available to be analyzed and used. Next Steps Marketing has been working to actively embrace and develop responsive audiences to best suit client needs. Our focus has changed.
Our new website reflects the new world of circulation and our change of focus, developing responsive audiences in every facet of our clients' business--online, in print, and at the newsstand.
Our goal with this new website is to reflect the new and exciting world that audience building is forming online, in print and at retail. It demonstrates how we solve audience-building challenges in a creative and customized way--using practical "call-to-action" marketing techniques--where the return is clearly measurable by clicks, email newsletter sign-ups, online subscription sales and requests, responses to direct mail, webinar/event attendance, whitepaper downloads, or sales at newsstand.
Our tagline "we get audiences" further defines our company's focus on helping media companies develop and implement strategies and promotions that maximize ROI from their various audience segments. Click on the homepage image above to check out our new site.
