The iPad, the Next Generation?
Prior to and post launch of the anticipated iPad, magazines have been announcing their efforts to create an experience that will go hand-in-hand with devices. Here are some examples we like:
Vogue- is rumored to have secured $250,000 in ad revenues for the launch of their app, Vogue Stylist.
Wired- seems like this will be very attractive to advertisers. It will be interesting to see if other Condé Nast titles follow suit, especially, because of the Adobe - Apple Crossfire

Sports Illustrated- can’t imagine a sports fan not wanting to want to flick through a copy.

Social Media Standings
Facebook surged to the number one position for the first time in May 2009 and continued its strong growth trajectory throughout the year finishing with 112 million visitors in December 2009, up 105% from about 55 million visitors during 2008. This week of March 8th, was the first time that Facebook surpassed Google in traffic.
Twitter finished the year with nearly 20 million visitors to its website, up 900% from just 2 million visitors in 2008. Much of Twitter’s extraordinary audience growth occurred during the first few months of 2009, at one point jumping from 4 million visitors to 17 million visitors between February and April.
New Barnes and Noble CEO
Barnes and Noble named William Lynch as CEO, replacing Steve Riggio. Lynch joined B&N in early 2009, without any book experience as president of the company's web division. This is a clear signal that B&N is embracing a digital future.

Digital First
For the first time ever, spending on digital advertising will outstrip that targeted toward the print sector. A study by Outsell predicts Web ads will jump 10 percent in the coming year, meaning 32.5 percent of the $368 billion will be spent on the internet, versus just 30.0 percent on print. Outsell Vice President Chuck Richard, calls it a "watershed moment." |
